It is estimated that there are $4 Billion to $5 Billion SMS exchanged everyday. And clearly, the number is growing because sms is clearly a popular medium of communication. No wonder marketers are wondering how they can use this to pump up their marketing strategy. SMS messages are guaranteed reads. Approximately 97 percent of SMS are read with 83 percent of those opened within the hour of recieving it. It doesn’t get any better than that for marketers.

With consumers now wary of SPAMS from emails, it has lessened it’s effectiveness as a marketing medium. The effectiveness of the SMS messaging was manifested by the US Presidential election where nearly 3million people registered to get SMS messages from the Obama campaign. Recently, health clubs and sports teams are using SMS to advertise campaigns for their teams’s special events. They also offer discounts and promos on ticket prices and improve campaigns with additional incentives.

If you use SMS in your marketing strategy, make sure that the integrity of your company’s image is established by staying clear of illegal activities and by not turning SMS into a spam tool. Unfortunately, spammers are beginning to penetrate the SMS where they can send out millions of text messages at random. You also have to be careful because several countries now punish spammers. Remember to always treat your customers with respect and care to enhance your business reputation thus raising the profile of your business.Moreover, telecommunication companies terminate your account if they found out that you’re a spammer. They exert greater control than internet providers perform in email spammers. You should bear one vital point in mind that SMS marketing should not replace your traditional marketing strategy. Consider SMS marketing as an auxiliary technique.
